Development, Implementation & Evaluation of an Intervention to Increase the Use of Seatbelts in Abu-Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Aims:
To estimate the prevalence of seatbelt use by motor vehicle drivers and front seat passengers in Abu-Dhabi city, the United Arab Emirates and to implement and evaluate an intervention to increase seatbelt use in Abu-Dhabi city.
Methods
This research models that undertaken as part of the China Seatbelt Intervention namely, the evaluation of the intervention adopts a pre-test / post-test design.
In contrast to the China Seatbelt Intervention, due to financial and time constraints, the intervention is not being evaluated using a control site. Prior to the implementation of the intervention, extensive baseline (pre-test) measures of the key outcomes will be undertaken in Abu-Dhabi. These measures will be repeated at 6 months post-intervention.
Status/Results
Full implementation of the project took place over a four month period in 2006. Post-intervention follow-up was conducted immediately after the intervention in July 2006 and also at six months post-intervention in February 2007.
