Professor KE Yang
Professor Ke graduated from Peking Medical University (former Peking University Health Science Centre) and received her clinical training in Beijing Jishuitan Hospital in 1978-80. She commenced her career in cancer research at the Beijing Institute for Cancer Research in 1982 and, while her primary role now lies in capacity development and policy direction, she remains active in this academic area. She undertook considerable international training in cancer research in the United States at the National Cancer Institute as a Visiting Fellow and Visiting Scholar for three periods between 1985-88, 1994-96 and 1998-99. Her fields of research are gastric cancer and esophageal cancer. Professor Ke is a clear leader in medical science in China and worldwide and is a committed internationalist. She is the recent leader of a new population cohort study of human papilloma virus and esophageal cancer in a high incident population in central China.
Professor Ke’s current role is to manage and oversee the overall development of Peking University Health Science Center and evolve its mission and vision to meet the changing health circumstances of China. Amongst others, she has the leadership role for Scientific Research, Human Resources and Constructive Programs at the Health Science Center. Recently, Professor Ke re-signed the memorandum of understanding between the Peking University Health Science Center and the George Institute, demonstrating the joint commitment to postgraduate education, research and clinical services, between the two organisations.
Professor Ke has led many scientific research programs as a Principal Investigator including programs sponsored by the National 863 High-Tech Key Project, National Natural Science Foundation and Beijing Natural Science Foundation. She is also a Co-Principal Investigator for programs sponsored by the National 973 Cancer Project and Beijing High-Tech Laboratory Project. Professor Ke has published more than 50 academic papers including 12 SCI journals papers, with over 300 citations. Professor Ke was awarded many honors including the "Star of Science and Technology" by the Ministry of Health, the second prize of National Award for Science and Technology Progress, the third prize of Science and Technology Progress of the Ministry of Health, the second and third prize of Science and Technology Progress of Beijing Municipal Government. Professor Ke has been the supervisor for PhD and Master Students.
